About this crochet dachshund

This little dog has a rounded, low-slung body with a curly tail, four bobble-textured paws, a sweet cream muzzle, and long floppy ears. This Dachshund Dog Crochet Pattern is shown in brown with a Mallard green and white sweater, but you can choose any three colour placements you enjoy.

How to finish each round

Use a joined-round method. Mark the first stitch of the round, then finish the round with a slip stitch. Chain 1 after a round of sc or hdc, chain 2 after dc, and chain 3 after tr or trc. Work the first stitch of the next round into the same stitch where you made the slip stitch.

This is especially helpful through the sweater section, where it keeps the colour bands aligned. You may use a spiral construction instead, but the paws may then sit out of position.

Cut the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing. Attach each ear between Rows 7 and 8, 2 sts away from the eye.

Assemble the dachshund puppy

1. Sew the two finished ears to the head between Rows 7 and 8, positioning each ear 2 stitches away from an eye.
2. Sew the head from Rows 6-9 to the body from Rows 11-13, as directed in these instructions.
3. Check the puppy from the front and side before making the last securing stitches. The ears should fall evenly and the face should sit above the striped sweater.
